Dalhousie Dawn

In the early morning
When not even the sun had paid this hill town a visit
I woke up to mountains
That were a soft molten blue.

Not rock solid with sharp peaks or edges
But gentle in form
and fluid in stance
Almost like calm waves formed on the surface of a benevolent sea.

The tips of snow rising above the rest like the foaming heads of the incoming tide.
While the smaller hills
Bowed low in reverence.

I traced their lines from this side of the window
Running my finger across the cold glass.

Miles away
Did I not just see
The mountains shiver at my touch?
Rippling delicately as I floated along?

  2. Hey Arundhati, what a beautiful poem! Ever since i've had the pleasure and privilege to read your poems, i have noticed one quality of yours which not a lot of people could boast about: the slow and loving simmering and crafting of every moment - nothing seems rushed or urgent. I love that. In this poem particularly, i was so taken by how you have transformed an ordinary misty morning thing (tracing the figure of the mountains) to an extraordinarily captivating moment. And i loved the visual of you engaged in this ritual - it seemed wonderfully carved in a very big view-small view (mountains in the open/you in your room) unison two-way style. And you infused it with an intimate charge of interconnectedness and life force by wondering if they shivered at your touch and if the same energy ran through the two of you. That was absolutely beautiful and so flawlessly done. To me, you are quite the observer and sculptor of these sliced moments of everyday perfection that makes one stop in her step and just soak and bathe in the presence and vitality of every such fleeting yet pregnant-with-possibilities-if-you-are-willing-to-stop-and-look experience :)
